Creating a shipping rate
1) When you first get into the app you will see a menu on the left hand side with a link to your "Shipping Rates" page. Click on that to make sure you are on the correct page.
Then to create a shipping rate click on the blue "Create New Shipping Rate" button.
This will take you to the page where you'll start the set up.
First you'll need to name the rate. This will be the name that appears to your customers at checkout, so make sure it reflects the type of shipping you're offering (eg standard shipping, or express shipping).
Next you have the option of adding some more additional information underneath the name of the rate. This can be useful if you want to give your customers an approximate shipping time or if the delivery is contactless, for example.
Next you will select your delivery profile. Please note: At this time the Better Shipping app only syncs to your General Profile. If you have any products in other Shopify profiles, the Better Shipping app can't generate shipping rates on those. For more information about this please contact us.
Next you can select your "shipping from" location. These are set up in your Shopify settings. For more information about setting up shipping locations head here.
Next you select your "shipping to". The shipping zone is the zone that this rate will apply to. To view or create new Shipping Zones, please have a look at your Shopify Shipping settings in your Shopify Admin area (ShopifyAdmin->Settings->Shipping and delivery->General->Manage). For more information on how to create or modify your shipping zones, please see the Shopify help located here.
Then click "next"!
NB: In this example, we will create a rate called "Standard Shipping" and set the Shipping Zone to the "Domestic" zone that we have already created.
2) On the next page, you are asked if you want to include or exclude specific zip codes from within the shipping zone. If you just want to ship to the whole of the shipping zone (e.g. the whole of the USA) and you don't need to restrict your products to specific zip codes, click the "No" button. If you do need to restrict specific zip codes, click "Yes" (more information on how to use zip codes can be found in this help guide). In this current example, we are going to choose "No", as we want to ship to the whole of our Domestic shipping zone.
Next, you will be asked if you would like to use "per product shipping". You do not need to use this feature if you don't want to. If you only want to set up shipping per order, or based on total order value or weight, you can switch the blue toggle to "no". However, if you would like to set up per product based shipping, you can leave the blue toggle set to "yes" and click "save and next"!
3) Now you can set up each of your products with its own shipping rate. At the checkout, each per product rate will be added together to generate the final shipping rate.
So if a customer orders two "more green" products, then their total shipping cost at the checkout will be $12. Once you have assigned a shipping rate to each of your products, you can click "update and save"
This will take you to the shipping rules page, where you can create shipping rules for your orders if you would like. We will cover the shipping rules in a different section, and if you don't want to set up any shipping rules, simply click "finish" and your shipping rate will be complete!
